Employee Retention – Strategies to Create the Right Work Environment for Your Employees

One of the best ways to gain and retain your people is to make it a place they want to work.  One way to do that is to consciously create the right work environment for your employees.

In an article I wrote that appeared in Corp Detroit Magazine I gave five ways a small business owner could do this. I would like to expand on one of those ideas. That idea is to make your people-309068__180 pixabay freeemployees feel important. It is critical to make your employees feel important. Why? Because they are important! Try running a business without them, it just won’t work.

Some of the ways you can use to make your employees feel like valued human beings are:

  • provide clean and modern break rooms and restrooms.
  • remember employees birthdays
  • provide training for them that allows them to do their job even better.

As employees develop their skill sets, they are able to take on additional job related challenges. When they are able to succeed in handling these challenges, their feelings of accomplishment build feelings of self-esteem.

Remember, as the great Cavett Robert once said, “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” Truer words were never spoken.
