David Viscott in his excellent book entitled Risking shares a management tool that I have adapted for small business use. It can help you plan out and accomplish your projects and grow your small business. This tool can be very effective in helping you plot and complete your action list of things to do.
The concept is to divide the action you take to complete projects into five steps. The steps are:
• Possible Project Ideas
• Projects being Organized
• Projects Being Worked On this Month
• Projects Being Worked On this Week
• Projects Being Worked on Today
Here is how it works. Write out each heading on a 3×5 post it note. Place the titled post it notes, from left to right on your action board in plain sight. Under each heading write up corresponding 3×5 post it note cards with the activity you will be working on.
As each activity is developed it is moved across the action board from right to left. Some activities will move back to the appropriate column on the left as necessary.
When the project reaches completion put it in an envelope marked completed projects and keep for future reference. When you use this tool you can grow your small business.
What do you think of this tool. Let me know how it works for you. Feel free to contact me with your questions.
