How does a smile create customer delight? When you and your team members use a smile with your customers it informs them that you are happy and you probably like your job of serving them. Research has proven that customers like to buy things from people who enjoy serving people.
Have you ever noticed people that smile a lot seem to have more friends? It’s true most of us like to be around people with a smiling disposition. We certainly like
Have you ever seen a baby smile? It can make you feel like smiling right back. Doctors tell us that smiling is good medicine. It actually stimulates the production of endorphins in our brains. Endorphins are the natural chemicals produced within our brains that allow us to feel good and stay healthier.
How does a smile affect the people with whom we use it? It communicates to them that we like them and we like ourselves. It tells them we are glad to be doing what we are doing. A smile can create customer delight.
Who’s in control of putting a smile on our face? We are. As Abraham Lincoln once said “most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.” Yet, everyday people will give up the right to be happy by succumbing to the bad news that engulfs them. The television, radio and online newspapers love to spew out the stinking and rotting bad news. If we are not careful, it can rob us of our innate optimism, like the wind blowing out the bright flame of a candle.
One of the best ways to get smiles from others is to give them one of ours. A simple way to make it easy for us to sincerely smile at others, is to first remind ourselves of something we have in our life that makes us happy. It could be our family, our health or our friends. Once we have an image of what reminds us to be happy, we can express that happiness to others in a sincere, heartfelt smile.
So make it a point to use the power of a smile every day with your customers. It will serve you well.
